Concrete vs Paver Pool Deck
Concrete and paver pool decks dominate residential pool surrounds. Each has different cost, longevity, repairability, and aesthetic.
Cost
Stamped concrete: $12 to $22 per sqft installed. Pavers (travertine, porcelain, concrete pavers): $18 to $48 per sqft installed.
Longevity
Concrete: 25 to 30 years if properly poured with control joints. Pavers: 30 to 50 years, with individual pavers replaceable as they crack or stain.
Repair
Concrete cracks must be patched and color-matched, often visible. Pavers: pop out the damaged paver and replace, invisible repair.
Heat
Travertine and porcelain pavers stay measurably cooler underfoot than concrete in full sun.
Slip Resistance
Both can be slip-rated. Pavers tend to have natural texture; concrete needs added broom finish or sealer additive for grip.
Verdict
Choose concrete for lowest initial cost and large continuous surfaces. Choose pavers for longer life, easier repair, cooler surface temperature, and premium aesthetic.
