How to Balance Pool Chemistry
Balanced water means pH 7.2-7.8, alkalinity 80-120 ppm, calcium 200-400 ppm, CYA 30-50 ppm.
Test Order
- Test alkalinity first (it buffers pH)
- Adjust alkalinity to 80-120 ppm with sodium bicarbonate
- Test pH; raise with soda ash, lower with muriatic acid
- Test calcium hardness
- Test CYA (cyanuric acid)
- Test free chlorine
Frequency
Weekly test minimum. Twice weekly during peak use.
