How to Remove Pool Algae
Algae (green, yellow/mustard, black) requires shock, brush, and filter cleanup.
By Color
- Green: most common. Low chlorine + sun.
- Yellow/Mustard: chlorine-resistant. Needs algaecide.
- Black: deepest in plaster. Requires acid wash or aggressive brushing.
Treatment
- Brush walls vigorously
- Triple-shock (3x normal dose)
- Add algaecide
- Run pump 24 hours
- Vacuum to waste (not filter) to remove dead algae
- Backwash filter
